Did you know? Our older pupils are Book Buddies for the younger children and some of our admin staff are Book Buddies at Magna Carta School.

Book Buddies

Reading is a very important tool for successful learning.

Book Buddies are volunteers who come into school when they can to listen to our children read and share their oBook Buddy at The Hythe Community Primary Schoolwn love of reading with them.

Before they start all Book Buddies receive free training giving hints and tips on the best way to read with the children to help them improve their reading skills.  The only requirement to be a Book Buddy is that you complete an online DBS application, something that the school will arrange for you. As a volunteer this will not cost you anything.

If you would like to become a Book Buddy or if you would like more information about it please email info@hythe.surrey.sch.uk.

We are lucky enough to have a number of parents and relatives of pupils and friends from our local community who give up some of their spare time to be Book Buddies at The Hythe.  Students from Royal Holloway University are also joining our Book Buddy team.  Local companies such as BUPA and British Gas are very supportive and promote our Book Buddy scheme amongst their staff.

We also like to encourage all families to spend some time reading together at home as often as possible.

Reading to your child or listening to them read to you is a lovely way to spend time together.  It can stimulate your child’s imagination and curiosity and give them a strong foundation for future reading skills.  It also encourages them to read more on their own and could start up a life-long interest that helps them through many aspects of their life.
